Following her first appearance as an actor in 1984's Reckless however, she managed to make her mark with the comedy film for teens Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986). The role she played as Frances Houseman, a romance drama film about the love between two people earned her international fame. Other feature films she has appeared in include Red Dawn (1984), The Cotton Club (1984), Bloodhounds of Broadway (1989) Bounce (2000), Redbelt (2008), The Wind Rises (2013), In Your Eyes (2014), Duck Duck Goose (2018), and Bittersweet Symphony (2019). Grey's early television work includes the made-for-TV movies Murder in Mississippi (1990), Criminal Justice and If the Shoe Fits as Kelly Carter / Prudence She played herself in the series It's Like, You Know and won season eleven of the dance competition show Dancing with the Stars and she starred as Judy Meyers in the Amazon Prime Video comedy Red Oaks She has done voice work on film and on television, voicing her voice for the film Duck Duck Goose and the animated television show Phineas and Ferb.
